Cameroon will grow its own wheat

The Cameroonian government has approved a three-year action plan for the development of the domestic wheat industry, which is expected to begin in 2027. The cost of the program is estimated at 30.9 billion CFA francs (54 million US dollars).
The plan envisages sowing 4,500 hectares of wheat to produce about 9,000 tons of certified seeds, with the aim of achieving an annual wheat production volume of 180,000 tons in different regions of the country.
Cameroon, the largest importer of wheat in Central Africa, purchased 921,236 tons of wheat worth almost $219 million from the international market in 2025. Although the country's goal of producing 180,000 tons of wheat per year may seem modest compared to the volume of imports, it can still make a significant contribution to reducing costs.
