Botswana is ready to become a regional electricity exporter

Botswana has completed the financing of the construction of the 100-megawatt Tati Solar power plant, which will be put into commercial operation in 2027. The project cost was 100 million US dollars.
The Tati Solar project is the first industrial-scale solar power plant in Botswana. The electricity generated at the plant will be sold to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), one of the largest cross-border electricity markets in Africa.
The SAPP connects 12 countries and serves a population of more than 360 million people, providing generators with access to a much broader customer base than a single domestic utility.
Energy consumption in South Africa has been steadily growing, driven by active mining activities, expanding data center capacity, industrial development and extensive electrification programs in the region.
