Angola and DR Congo combine power grids

The Congolese Minister of Water Resources and Electricity, Molendo Sakombi, announced that Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will build one of the largest power transmission lines in Africa between the cities of Malanye and Fungurume, with a length of about 1,450 kilometers.
The hundreds of millions of dollars energy project will also include the construction of a second transmission line connecting the Angolan province of Zaire and the city of Inga in the DRC to provide Congolese with 2,000 megawatts of electricity.
The Minister explained that the initiative is aimed at meeting the urgent energy needs of the DR Congo's population, which is estimated at approximately 100 million people.
