Algeria to connect 3,000 villages to mobile communications
Algeria’s Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority (ARPCE) has announced a tender to expand mobile network coverage to 3,000 settlements with a population of less than 2,000 people each in all provinces of the country.
Operators are encouraged to deploy a public mobile network in rural and hard-to-reach areas. The project is fully funded by the state from a fund to which operators contribute 3% of their annual income.
It is expected that the initiative will not only promote wider Internet connectivity, but will also contribute to the digital, social and economic development of sparsely populated areas.
