A common QR code for payment has been introduced in Central Africa

On July 29, 2026, the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) officially launched a compatible QR payment code for the six countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).
The single standard is meant to let individuals and businesses pay merchants regardless of their bank, e-money operator or payment provider.
BEAC plans to connect all financial institutions in the subregion to the pan-African PAPSS payment network by the end of 2026.
The BEAC is the common central bank of the six member states of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa. These are Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad.
