5 African sites included in the new UNESCO World Heritage List
At the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea, 5 new sites from Africa were recognized as the heritage of mankind.
The list of natural sites includes Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Boma-Badingilo migration Landscape (including the Boma and Badingilo National Parks, as well as the surrounding floodplain landscapes and savannas) in South Sudan.
The cultural sites recognized as World Heritage sites are the Madinahs of the historical Sultanates of the Comoros (six ancient cities), the Tunisian village of Sidi Bou Said and the Plantation complexes of Sao Tome and Principe (Portuguese colonial agricultural plantations).
